মধ্য কলকাতার এক হোটেলে ওষুধ খেয়ে আত্মহত্যার চেষ্টা মা-মেয়ের। পুলিশ সূত্রে খবর, মায়ের নাম পলি মিত্র এবং মেয়ে ঈশিতা মিত্র। পলি দেবীকে বাঁচানো না গেলেও মেয়ে ঈশিতা আপাতত এসএসকেএম-এ চিকিৎসাধীন।
পুলিশ সূত্রে খবর, কিড স্ট্রিটে অবস্থিত হোটেল এমিরেটস থেকে বুধবার রাতে ফোন আসে সেখানকার ৩০৩ নম্বর রুমের দরজা কেউই খুলছেন না। যাঁরা ছিলেন সকাল থেকে তাঁদের কোনও সাড়াশব্দ মেলেনি। অথচ চুক্তি অনুসারে এদিন-ই এই ঘর যাঁরা ভাড়া নিয়েছেন তাঁদের হোটেল ছাড়ার কথা। এমন ঘটনা জানতে পারার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে হোটেলে গিয়ে হাজির হন নিউ মার্কেট থানার পুলিশ আধিকারিকেরা। এরপর ঘরের ভিতর থেকে কোনও সাড়া না মেলায় হোটেল কর্মীদের উপস্থিতিতেই মাস্টার কি দিয়ে ঘর খোলা হয়। এরপরই নজরে আসে, ঘরে আলো জ্বলছে, সিলিং ফ্যানও চলছে। চলছে এসিও। আর ঘরের মেঝে থেকে শুরু করে বিছানায় ছড়িয়ে ছিটিয়ে পড়ে রয়েছে ওষুধের বহু খালি স্ট্রিপ।
এরপরই ঘরের মধ্যে বছর ৫৫ থেকে ৬০ এর এক প্রৌঢ়া সহ বছর ৩৪-এর আরও এক মহিলাকে সংজ্ঞাহীন অবস্থায় পড়ে থাকতে দেখা যায়। এরপরই দ্রুত তাঁদের পাঠানো হয় এসএসকেএম-এ। তবে এসএসকেএম-এর চিকিৎসকেরা জানান, মারা গেছেন ওই প্রৌঢ়া। এদিকে ঘরে তল্লাশি চালাতেই মেলে বেশ কয়েক পাতা জুড়ে লেখা একটি সুইসাইড নোটও।
এরপর ঘটনার তদন্তে নেমে পুলিশ জানতে পারে, এই দুই মহিলার নাম পলি মিত্র এবং অপরজনের নাম ঈশিতা মিত্র। পলি এবং ঈশিতা সম্পর্কে মা এবং মেয়ে। সঙ্গে এও জানা যায় যে, আদতে এঁদের বাড়ি হরিদেবপুরের ব্যানার্জি পাড়ায়। তবে পলি দেবীর স্বামী স্বপন মিত্রের মৃত্যুর পর থেকে পলি দেবীর আয় বলে কোনও কিছুই ছিল না। ফলে তাঁরা মানসিক অবসাদে ভুগছিলেন। একইসঙ্গে মেয়ে ঈশিতাও বিভিন্ন সমস্যায় জর্জরিত। ফলে সব মিলিয়ে এক অসহনীয় অবস্থার মুখে পড়েন মা ও মেয়ে।
এরপর তদন্তে নেমে এও উঠে আসে স্বপনবাবু মারা যাওয়ার আগে তাঁর পৈতৃক সূত্রে প্রাপ্ত গোবরডাঙায় একটি সাড়ে তিন কাঠার জমি বিক্রি করেন। তাঁর থেকে তাঁদের হাতে আসে লাখ ছয়েক টাকা। তবে পাশাপাশি পুলিশ তদন্তে নেমে এও জানতে পারে, গত চার মাস ধরে হরিদেবপুরের নিজেদের বাড়িতে থাকতেন না মা-মেয়ে দুজনেই। তার বদলে তাঁরা থাকতেন বিভিন্ন হোটেলে। একেবারে শেষে গত ৮ জুন তাঁরা এসে ওঠেন কিড স্ট্রিটের এই হোটেল এমিরেটস-এ। হোটেল এমিরেটস-এর দৈনিক ভাড়া হিসেব মা-মেয়েকে দিতে হতো সাড়ে চার হাজার টাকা। এই সাড়ে চার হাজার টাকার মধ্যে রয়েছে প্রাতঃরাশের খরচ। বুধবার পর্যন্ত তাঁদের বিল হয় ১ লক্ষ ৯৮ হাজার টাকা। এদিকে এই হোটেলের তরফ থেকে জানানো হয়েছে একটিও টাকা বাকি রাখেননি মিত্র পরিবারের এই দুই সদস্যা।
Yesterday night New Market PS received an information from Hotel Emirates situated at 11/1 Kyd Street under New Market P.S that the boarders of room no. 303 was not responding since morning, they are supposed to checkout after 12 pm. Police rushed there and with the help of master key the room was opened in presence of the hotel staffs.
Lights inside the room was glowing, ceiling fan and air condition were on. Numerous empty strips of medicines were found lying scattered on the floor as well as on the bed.
On entering the room they found one aged lady Poli Mitra ( 55-60) and her daughter Ishita Mitra (34) were lying there in unconscious condition.Both of them were removed to SSKM Hospital where the aged lady was declared brought dead and her young daughter is admitted there and whose treatment is going on there.
One multiple page suicide note in an excersise book and large number of different type of medicine strips and tablets found scattered.
Poli Mitra and her daughter is having their residence at 321 Banejeepara, Haridevpur. After death of her husband Swapan Mitra, Poli Mitra had no source of income. They left their residence 4 moths back and were staying in different hotels since then.
After death of her husband before 06 years Poli Mitra had no source of income. The daughter was suffering from different ailments. Both were suffering from depression. Deceased sold one land at her parental house at Gobordanga before 06 montha and got Rs 6 lakhs from selling the land (3. 5 cottaha).
They left their residence 4 moths back and were staying in different hotels since then. They had checked in at Hotel Emirates on 8th June ’23. Room charge was Rs 4500 Per day in which breakfast was complimentary.
Deceased paid total Rs 1,98,000 to the hotel, and the payment was up to date.
